Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG), Govt. of Goa today (19 Nov’15) has issued an urgent notice to all the iron ore lease holders in Goa (those belonging to the category of renewed mining leases) in pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court.
The Apex Court on 17 Nov’15 asked the Goa govt. to formally defend itself against accusation that it renewed 88 lapsed mining leases in the state in violation of the auction rule introduced by way of MMDR Amendment Act, 2015.
NGO ‘Goa Foundation’ had challenged the Goa govt. in the Supreme Court for renewing the lapsed mining leases. It also challenged Bombay High Court’s judgement directing to renew the leases of the miners that had paid stamp duty. The 20 Mar’15, order from the environment and forest ministry restoring all environment clearances suspended by an order passed on 14 Sept’14, also violated the court order, the NGO alleged.
After looking at the petitions filed by the NGO ‘Goa Foundation’, Honorable Supreme Court has send notice to the concerned miners in Goa.
In its issued notification, Goa DMG has directed to depute the representatives to the office of DMG today itself to collect the soft copy of the petitions. The final hearing in this matter is fixed on 09 Dec’15.
