South Africa: RBCT Coal Exports slump by 20.9% M-o-M; Shipped 58% to Southern Asia

Richards Bay port’s Coal exports slumped by 20.9% during Apr’14 M-o-M. Port has exported around 5.4 MnT of Coal to different parts of the world.

Coal shipment of world’s leading Coal exporting port Richards Bay Coal Terminal’s (RBCT) has decreased by 20.9% M-o-M and exported about 5.4 MnT of Coal in April, 2014. Coal exports declined by 12.6% in comparison to Coal exported in same period in previous year.

During the last 4 months, port has shipped around 21.4 MnT of Coal till April, 2014 which is 8.5% less from same period of last year.

RBCT

Less demand from market resulted South African Coal price to remain stable at around USD 74-75/MT FOB basis for 6,000 NAR Kcal/kg grade.

Coal exports to European countries declined drastically by 57% and shipped around 0.8 MnT, whereas last month, RBCT shipped around 1.9 MnT to Europe. Shipment to Asian countries also dropped by 16% to 4.1 MnT. However, almost 58% to 3.2 MnT of total exports, shipped to Southern Asia region.

Declined exports resulted in increase in port’s Coal stock which rose to 36% to 4.2 MnT, whereas it received around 835 rakes in April, 2014.

To carry 5.4 MnT of Coal, port has loaded 62 vessels. Out of 62 vessels, port has loaded 32 Capesize vessel, 11 Panamax vessels and 19 Handysize vessels. RBCT have shipped 212 vessels including 128 Capesize vessels, 37 Panamax vessels and 47 Handysize vessels Year to date.
