South Africa: Ferrous Scrap Exports Up 33% M-o-M in Jul’17

India doubled its scrap imports from South Africa in Jul’17.

As per customs data, South Africa- one of the major exporters of ferrous scrap has witnessed a growth in its exports in Jul’17. South Africa exported 0.04 MnT ferrous scrap registering increase of 33 % M-o-M in Jul’17, as ferrous scrap exports were 0.03 MnT in Jun’17.

On yearly premises, exports fell 20 % as exports were 0.05 MnT in Jul’16.

During first seven months of CY17 (Jan-Jul’17), ferrous scrap exports from South Africa amounted to 0.28 MnT, noticing fall of 10 % against 0.31 MnT exports during same period in CY16.

Majority of the scrap exports made from South Africa have been done through ports like Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

India registered highest share of South African ferrous scrap exports in Jul’17 –

India imported highest 0.02 MnT ferrous scrap from South Africa in Jul’17.While, Pakistan imported 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap from South Africa in Jul’17.Other major importers like Bangladesh, South Korea and Vietnam remained Silent in Jul’17.

Pakistan continued to remain largest importer of South African ferrous scrap so far in CY17 with 0.11 MnT imports during Jan-Jul’17.During period Jan-Jul’17, South Africa scrap exports to India amounted to 0.10 MnT occupying 36 % share of total scrap exports.
