Japan, the second largest iron ore importer of the world imported 10.32 MnT iron ore in Jul’17 against 10.63 MnT in Jun’17. The imports were down by 3% M-o-M.
The country’s imports were down Y-o-Y as well compared to Jul’16 by 4%. In Jul’16, the country imported 10.79 MnT iron ore.
In the first seven months of 2017, the country imported 73.5 MnT iron ore, down 2% as it was 75.02 MnT in the same period last year.
The non-agglomerated iron ore import in the month of Jul’17 was registered at 9.06 MnT against 9.23 MnT in Jun’17 down 2% M-o-M and 7% Y-o-Y against Jul’16 which was at 9.70 MnT. On the similar lines the agglomerated iron ore imports as well were registered down 9% M-o-M at 1.26 MnT in Jul’17 compared to 1.39 MnT in Jun’17 but 17% up Y-o-Y against 1.08 MnT in Jul’16.

Australian iron ore exports to Japan have witnessed a growth of 3% M-o-M which was 6.51 MnT in Jul’17 and 6.31 MnT in Jun’17, it were down 10% Y-o-Y compared the same month last year. Australia exported around 7.23 MnT iron ore in Jul’16 to Japan.
Brazil exported 2.54 MnT iron ore to Japan in Jul’17 down 12% M-o-M and 6% Y-o-Y compared to the month of Jul’16 which was 2.71 MnT.
South Africa was the third largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Jul’17 and exported 0.33 MnT iron ore against 0.39 MnT in Jun’17 down by 15% M-o-M. South Africa exported 0.22 MnT iron ore in to Japan in Jul’16.
India turned out to be the fourth largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Jul’17 and exported 0.22 MnT iron ore down 48% against 0.42 MnT in Jun’17 it was down Y-o-Y as well by 27%. India exported 0.3 MnT iron ore to Japan in Jul’16.
