Shah Commission visited R.P.Sao and KJS Ahlluwalia mines

Bhubaneswar:
The Justice M.B.Shah commission investigating the illegal mining case today
visited several mines in the Sundargarh and Keonjhr district.  At first he visited the R.P.Sao mines at Joda
and checked its several documents related to mining.

The commission lead by
U.V.Singh questioned about the iron ore fines dumped at the mines area. Mr
Singh asked the representatives of the mines that when did the fines raised
from the mine and how much has been already sold? He also asked about the
necessary clearances of the Sponge iron plant located at the mines premises.

After
this, the Commission visited the K.J.S.Ahluwalia mines located at Nuagaon in
Sundargarh District. On the other hand Keonjhar mines and forest employees
Association has presented a memorandum to the commission opposing the state
governments decision to clampdown 10 mines at the Joda Circle. The general
secretary of the Association Maheswar Raut said that by closing the mines the
state has endangered the livelihood of thousands of families depended on the
mines industry.

The
commission is scheduled to return Bhubaneswar on Friday. In its last visit the
panel had gone through the records of 83 mining leases and this time is likely
to check records of another 99 mining leases. 

The team led by U V Singh, additional principal
conservator of forests, Karnataka government, consist of other members like
Bishwajeet Mishra, conservator of forests (Karanataka), G T Pandya, deputy
commissioner (industries & mines), Gujarat government, Janardan Prasad,
senior geologist, Gujarat unit of Geological Survey of India and A V S Prasad,
stenographer of the commission.
