SCCL: Coal Production Hit 10-Month Low in Aug’18

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the coal miner operating in Telangana, has reported coal production of 4.38 MnT in Aug’18, which is the lowest monthly total since Oct’17.

Company’s coal production was down 3% on the year from 4.51 MnT in Aug’17, also witnessing a modest fall on the month from 4.43 MnT in Jul’18.

During the first 5 months of FY19 (Apr’18-Aug’18), SCCL’s coal production has totaled 23.38 MnT, recording a minor increase of 0.6% as compared with 23.24 MnT in Apr’17-Aug’17. However, the company was well short of its output target of 25.31 MnT set for the period.

SCCL’s coal supplies had also fallen to new lows, by attaining dispatch of 4.49 MnT in Aug’18. Monthly dispatch was the lowest total since Sep’16.

Coal dispatch in Aug’18, decreased 7% Y-o-Y to 4.49 MnT compared with 4.81 MnT in Aug’17; which was also down 1% on the month from 4.54 MnT in Jul’18.

During Apr’18-Aug’18, SCCL’s total coal dispatch of 25.92 MnT stands 2.54 MnT higher than the corresponding coal production. Moreover, total dispatch was 3% higher on the year from 25.23 MnT coal dispatched in the same period last year.

Area-wise Performance in Aug’18:

Out of the total monthly production, 0.74 MnT coal was produced from Underground projects, while the remaining 3.64 MnT coal was procured from the Open Cast projects.

Highest coal production was recorded in Kothagudem area, where the production had increased 7% M-o-M to 0.84 MnT in Aug’18.

Highest coal dispatch in Aug’18 was also recorded from Kothagudem area, followed by Ramagundam-III, Ramagundam-I and Ramagundam-II.

Coal Supply to Power Plants:

SCCL’s coal supplies to NTPC’s power plants continued its downward trend in Aug’18, which has been falling from the beginning of FY19. Dispatch in Aug’18 was down 8% M-o-M to 0.745 MnT compared with 0.81 MnT in Jul’18.

Coal dispatch to Singareni power plant, which is being operated by SCCL, recorded a remarkable growth in Aug’18, thereby ending a 3 month’s declining streak starting from Apr’18. SCCL had supplied 0.492 MnT coal to its owned plant, which was 146% higher on the month from 0.199 MnT in Jul’18.
