Met Coke Imports into India Down 44.2% in Feb’17 M-o-M

Met Coke imports into India declined 44.2% in Feb’17 in comparison with that in Jan’16, an analysis by CoalMint Research shows.

Imports of Met Coke into the country have shown a declining trend as most buyers postponed purchases in the hope of seeing the prices going down to significant levels. Met Coke prices in international regions have been pulled down by the falling Coking Coal prices.

According to CoalMint Research, 0.13 MnT of Met Coke was imported into India in Feb’17; and in the previous month, the import quantity was higher at 0.24 MnT.

COUNTRY-WISE IMPORTS

Imports from countries, such as Colombia, Japan and Russia become preferable among Indian buyers due to Anti Dumping Duty being imposed on imports from China and Australia.

Nevertheless, imports from Australia were the highest among all the countries of import during the month.

PORT-WISE IMPORTS

As imports were lower than the preceding month, ports in the country had handled lower volumes of import traffic during Feb’17, except by the Haldia port, which was an exception.

A port-wise comparative analysis shows that the Haldia port had handled the highest import traffic during the month under review, followed by the Mormugao and Paradip ports. Notably, the Kandla, Krishnapatnam and Vizag ports did not handle any import traffic during Feb’17.

The major importers during the month were: Essar, JSW, Atibir Industries, Balasore Alloys, Rawmet Commodities, Tata Steel and Kirloskar Ferrous.
