Taiwan, the world’s sixth largest iron ore importer has imported 22.69 MnT iron ore in 2016, according to the trade data released by Taiwan customs.
In 2016, iron ore imports have witnessed a growth of 11% Y-o-Y as imports remained at 20.52 MnT in 2015.
Taiwan imported 1.47 MnT iron ore in Dec’16 and has witnessed a considerable decrease of 39% M-o-M as it was 2.39 MnT in Nov’16. Comparing the data for the month of Dec’15, Taiwan iron ore imports had a marginal increase of 11% Y-o-Y which was 1.32 MnT previous year for the same month.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Dec’16 was registered at 1.26 MnT, down by 45% M-o-M and 5% Y-o-Y compared with the same month last year. However, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.21 MnT, which was more than double with an increase of 100% M-o-M and 100% up Y-o-Y comparing the corresponding months for years 2015 and 16.
Country-wise Taiwan iron ore imports in 2016
1. Australia, the largest exporter of iron ore to Taiwan exported 17.09 MnT iron ore in 2016 against 16.61 MnT in 2015 up 3%. In Dec’16, the country exported 1.03 MnT iron ore, down by 45% M-o-M but it was up 39% Y-o-Y for the month.
2. Brazil, the second largest iron ore exporter has exported 4.79 MnT iron ore in 2016 against 3.35 MnT in 2015 up 43%. In Dec’16, the country exported 0.47 MnT, up by 96% M-o-M but down 7% Y-o-Y for the month to Taiwan.
3. Canada, the third largest iron ore exporter to Taiwan has exported 0.76 MnT in 2016 against 0.53 MnT in 2015 up 43%. In Dec’16, the country exported 0.11 MnT. In Nov’16 and Dec’15 Canada did not export any quantity to Taiwan.
