Japan: Kyoei Steel suspends offers for rebars, other products over Middle East tensions

  • Lack of clarity on raw material costs prompts decision
  • Company to adjust production based on demand trends

Japan Metal Daily: Kyoei Steel, the largest rebar manufacturer in Japan, has declared on 6 March 2026 that it is going to suspend offers for all types of rebar products, including equal-leg angle bars, flat bars, round bars, and I-bars, across all its facilities, effective from 9 March 2026 until further notice.

Due to geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel-US in the Middle East, uncertainty has emerged in the crude oil and raw material markets, leading to a lack of clarity regarding future cost trends. In the current market environment, the company said it is difficult to set appropriate sales prices, prompting it to suspend offers for rebars as well as other product categories. Sales will resume once market trends are reassessed. The company noted that production will be adjusted based on demand conditions in the market.
