Indian Iron Ore Movement Stable in Sep’18

As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country recorded at 11.61 MnT in Sep’18. The iron ore movement has been recorded stable almost since past four months. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and import data as per customs. The figures exclude the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.

State-wise iron ore movement analysis:

Odisha Iron ore dispatches decreased by 5% on monthly basis

Iron ore dispatches from Odisha in Sep’18 witnessed at 6.07 MnT, down by 5% M-o-M against Aug’18 dispatches at 6.39 MnT.

Rungta Mines recorded highest dispatch in Sep’18 at 1.53 MnT, down 12% as against 1.75 MnT in Aug’18, followed by Serajuddin at 0.84 MnT (up 14% M-o-M) and OMC at 0.70 MnT (down 18% M-o-M).

NMDC (C.G) Iron ore dispatches surge 54% in Sep’18

India’s largest iron ore miner, NMDC supplied 241 rakes of iron ore in Sep’18, up by 54% on monthly basis, against 157 rakes in Aug’18.

Out of the total 241 rakes supplied, 44 rakes were moved to state based units, up two folds on monthly basis. A total of 187 rakes were supplied to outside CG based units (up 35% M-o-M).

NMDC resumed iron ore rake movement for exports in Sep’18 after a gap of five months, as the last movement was observed in Mar’18. The miner moved around 10 rakes for export in Sep’18.

Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales hit 6 months high in Sep’18

Karnataka e-auctions sales have increased in Sep’18 by 25% on monthly basis. The sales recorded at 2.76 MnT in Sep’18 as against 2.21 MnT in Aug’18.

NMDC’s iron ore sales decreased by 15% M-o-M to 0.86 MnT in Sept’18 compared to 1.01 MnT in Aug’18. NMDC Kumarswamy recorded a decrease in its sales volume by 62% to 0.31 MnT in Sept’18 compared to 0.82 MnT in Aug’18 while sales from NMDC Donimalai mines increased by almost three times to 0.55 MnT in Sept’18 compared to 0.19 MnT in Aug’18.

Indian iron ore imports drop 20% in Sep’18

The total imports witnessed a decline of 20% to 1.11 MnT in Sept’18 as against 1.38 MnT in Aug’18.

JSW Steel imported 0.74 MnT iron ore, down 47% compared to last month imports at 1.38 MnT. JSW Steel imported 0.57 MnT iron ore from Australia and 0.17 MnT from Brazil

Mono Steel turned out to be the second highest iron ore importer with 0.17 MnT in Sept’18 from South Africa. Follow by Jindal SAW 0.09 MnT, Sree Rengaraaj Ispat and Splendid Metal Products at 0.05 MnT each.

India Iron ore export reported in Sep’18

In Sep’18, the total iron ore exports witnessed at 0.12 MnT against being nil in Aug’18. On yearly basis, exports dropped 73% as compared to 0.44 MnT in Sep’17. For the month of Sep’18, SM Niryat contributed 53% of total exports at 0.062 MnT and remaining 47% contributed by Rungta mines at 0.06MnT.

The exports stood on lower side as Goa contributing major proportion of Indian exports, observed no exports in Sep’18. Besides, weather constraints and Chinese demand for high grade iron ore have affected the Indian exports.

Indian pellet export up two folds M-o-M in Sep’18

Indian pellet exports have registered an increase to more than twice M-o-M to 0.95 MnT in Sep’18 as against 0.45 MnT in Aug’18. Rashmi Metaliks recorded largest export from India in Sep’18 at 0.27 MnT, up by almost five folds on monthly basis as compared to 0.06 MnT a month before.
