Will have to comply with all the statutory clearances.
The Odisha government will notify the lease extension of 26 mines today and the supplementary lease deeds of these mines will be executed within 3 months from the date of notification. The 26 mines include 22 Iron ore and Manganese mines and the rest 4 mines are non Iron ore and manganese mines belong to ACC Bargarh, BK Lal mines.
Similarly, out of the 22 mines, 4 Iron ore and Manganese mines are of Tata Steel and rest 18 mines are merchant mines that were closed on the order of Supreme Court in May last year.
“The state government has agreed to renew the lease period of the 26 mines, as per the new MMDR act (2020 for non-captive and 2030 for captive mines) and the miners have been asked to execute supplementary lease deeds with the state government within 3 months of this notification to operate the mines,” said RK Sharma, Secretary, Steel & Mines, Government of Odisha.
However, in order to make the lease operational, the leases have to comply with all the statutory clearances within this time frame. The statutory clearances required to execute a lease include Forest and Environment clearance, Net Present Value (NPV), consent to operate clearance from the Pollution Control Board, Approved Mining Plan etc.
