Four More Iron Ore Mining Leases Receive GSPCB Consent in Goa

Yesterday (28 Jan’16), Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) granted consent to four iron ore mining leases in Goa to operate under the Air and Water Pollution Acts.

The leases that were cleared belong to Geetabala Parulekar (0.9 MnT), V. G. Quenim (0.197 MnT), N. S. Narvekar (0.39 MnT) and Dattaraj R. S. Velingkar (0.07 MnT). The iron ore extraction limit of these four mines has been fixed at 1.5 MnT. They have been granted consent to operate under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981.

In July’15, the board had given consent to 57 mining leases with annual extraction limit of 13.79 MnT with validity of one year. 

With earlier annual extraction limit 13.79 MnT and with these four mines getting consent for extraction of 1.5 MnT pa, Goa’s iron ore extraction limit has moved up to 15 MnT.
