Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has temporarily held up the mining permit of Serajuddin’s Balda iron ore mines in the Joda mining Circle for producing iron ore below the fixed annual limit. The Deputy Director of Mines, Joda has issued the order yesterday, subsequently which the mines will not be able to sale and dispatch iron ore from the mines. However, it is expected that the ban will be for a limited period only and the government may revoke it after getting written assurance from the miner to catch up the limit by March.
The annual iron ore production limit of the Balda mines is fixed at 15 MnT for the current financial year, but the till February the production has been well below the limit. Due to this the government’s revenue receipt is being impacted.
There are 23 iron ore mines are operating currently in the Joda circle. For the current financial year the Joda mining circle has set a taget to collect INR 27 bn mining revenue, but till today it has collected only INR 18 bn revenue, mainly due to lesser production from the miners.
