LABOUR STRIKE HAMPERS GLENCORE’S COAL PRODUCTION

Glencore’s coal production at its Hunter Valley Thermal Coal Mine and Oaky Creek Coking Coal Mine was impacted by the labour strike, which has been going on during the last four weeks. Coal production and shipment were hampered by the strike.

During H1 2017, the company had produced 61.1 MnT of coal, which was up by 4% over the production in H1 2016.

APPIN MINE NOT LIKELY TO RESUME THIS MONTH

South32 has been investigating the gas problems at its Appin mine, situated at Illawarra of Australia. The mine was shut-down temporarily in May this year due to higher gas concentrations inside the mine. From what appears now, the mine is likely to resume operations in Sep’17.

HAY POINT TERMINAL BERTH STILL UNDER MAINTENANCE

The berth, number 3, at the Hay Point Coal Terminal is under maintenance since 4 July’17. The berth is expected to reopen on 12 Aug’17. The temporary closure of the berth has added to port congestion. Vessels have to wait for about 10 days for loading coal at the terminal.

CLEAN ENVIRONMENT CESS ON COAL NOW GST COMPENSATION CESS

The Clean Environment Cess of INR 400 per MT of coal, that was payable during the pre-GST, is now revoked, and is replaced with a new levy named as the GST Compensation Cess, which is of the equivalent amount (INR 400/MT).
