China: Coal imports rise by 30%, m-o-m, in Nov’21

China’s coal and lignite imports rose by 30%, m-o-m, to 35.05 mn t in Nov’21, according to customs data. On a y-o-y basis, imports rose by a staggering 200%. The sharp rise came in the backdrop of strong winter restocking demand by power utilities in the country amidst domestic supply concerns. During Jan-Nov’21, coal imports stood at 29.32 mn t, up 11% y-o-y.
