According to the recent provisional data released by World Steel Association (WSA), the total crude steel production of 66 steel manufacturing countries for Apr’17 has registered a growth of 5%, Y-o-Y basis and was recorded at 142.1 MnT in Apr’17 against 135.0 MnT in Apr’16.
On monthly basis, world crude steel production witnessed marginal decline of 2% in Apr’17 against Mar’17. In Mar’17 world crude steel production was recorded at 145 MnT.

China crude steel output decline 5%Y-o-Y in Apr’17 – China’s crude steel output has recorded the drop of 5%,on yearly basis to 72.78 MnT in Apr’17 against 69.42 MnT in Apr’16. On monthly basis,China’s crude steel production registered the minute decline of 1% in Apr’17 as compared to 72 MnT in Mar’17.
Japan crude steel production increases by 4% Y-o-Y in Apr’17 – In Apr’17 nation’s crude steel reported a rise of 4%, Y-o-Y basis to 8.8 MnT against 8.50 MnT in Apr’16. On M-o-M basis, Japan’s crude steel production dropped down by 1.1% in Apr’17 as compared to 8.9 MnT in Mar’17.
India’s crude steel production down 5% Y-o-Y in Apr’17 – India’s crude steel output has come down by 5%,Y-o-Y basis from 7.69 MnT in Apr’16 to 8.06 MnT in Apr’17 However, on M-o-M basis, India’s crude steel output reported a sharp decline of 10% in Apr’17 against 9 MnT in Mar’17.
South Korea crude steel output slipped by 3%.Y-o-Y in Apr’17 – South Korea’s crude steel production was recorded at 5.5 MnT down by 3% in Apr’17 against 5.64 MnT in Apr’16. Thus country’s crude steel output has plunged down by 10% on monthly basis in Apr’17 against 6.1 MnT in Mar’17.
However,crude steel production of other top steel producing countries in Apr’17 remained as follows – United States: 6.7 MnT, Russia: 6.2 MnT and Brazil: 2.8 MnT.
