Vietnam coal imports record a significant rise of 54% in H1 CY’ 20

During Jan-Jun’20, Vietnam’s coal imports is recorded at 31.6 mn t, up by 53.8% y-o-y basis with major imports from Australia and Indonesia. Vietnam turned into a net coal importer for past 5 years as the number of coal-fired plants increased to meet the surge in power demand. In 2019, coal-fired plants accounted for 36.1% of power generation despite efforts to reduce reliance on coal.
