Vedanta Aluminium posts highest-ever quarterly aluminium output in Q1FY’27

  • Alumina production jumps 41% year-on-year
  • New smelter drives record aluminium production

Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd (VAML) reported its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 632,000 t in Q1 FY’27, up 5% y-o-y and 3% q-o-q, supported by production from the new smelter and improved operational efficiency across existing smelting lines. Output from the Jharsuguda smelter increased marginally to 464,000 t, while BALCO production rose 17% y-o-y to 168,000 t, aided by the gradual ramp-up of the expansion project.

Alumina production surged 41% y-o-y to 826,000 t, driven by expanded refining capacity, although it declined 6% q-o-q due to unplanned shutdowns during the quarter. The company also achieved its highest-ever quarterly value-added aluminium production of 389,000 t, up 14% y-o-y and 4% q-o-q, reflecting its continued focus on improving product mix and meeting market demand.

During the quarter, VAML received Environment Clearance and Stage-II Forest Clearance for the Sijimali Bauxite Block, while the mining lease for the Kuraloi (A) North Coal Block was executed and Mine Opening Permission was secured in June. The company stated that the BALCO expansion remains on track, with full capacity utilisation expected by Q4 FY27. Although Vedanta’s demerger became effective on 1 May 2026, the reported production figures cover the entire April-June 2026 quarter.
