According to latest customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) rose by 6.25% on monthly basis to 1.02 MnT in Oct’17 as compared to 0.96 MnT in Sep’ 17.
On yearly basis also country’s flat steel import volumes remained at 1.02 MnT in Oct’17 as well as in Oct’16.
During the first ten months of (Jan-Oct) of CY17 country’s flat steel imports assessed at 10.12 MnT,up by 3% as compared to 9.86 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.

Canada accounts for 26% of share during first ten months of CY17-Canada has exported 2.67 MnT of flat steel in during the time period of Jan-Oct’17.It has occupied the largest share of 26.36 % in first ten months of CY17.Other countries include South Korea which occupied share of 9.7 % Mexico with 6.82%, followed by Turkey at 6.33% and Taiwan at 6.39% share respectively .
However on monthly basis Canada exported 0.29 MnT of flat steel to USA in Oct’17 rose by 12% against 0.26 MnT in Sep17.In Oct’17 other flat steel exporting countries includes South Korea,Mexico,Turkey and Taiwan.
A final decision is due in mid-February in anti-circumvention petitions versus Vietnamese cold-rolled and coated flat-rolled steel made from Chinese substrate.Thus prices rise for imported HRC may happen soon amid trades issues happening in USA market and may result in reduced flat steel import volumes.
