India: Met Coke Imports Down 23.5% in Nov’17 M-o-M

In Nov’17, Met Coke imports in India had fallen by 23.5% against the imports in the preceding month, according to an analysis on the import data compiled by CoalMint Research shows.

In the penultimate month of 2017, around 0.39 MnT of Met Coke was imported in the country against around 0.51 MnT in Oct’17.

The decline in the imports was due to the wait-and-watch stance adopted the buyers in the country due to the falling trend exhibited by the offers from the key international markets in the previous month.

Import from China and Columbia were higher during the month; but from the other nations, the imports were lower.

The highest import traffic was handled by the Krishnapatnam; followed by the Hazira and Dharamtar ports.

In the succeeding month, the imports are expected to pick up as the global offers are rising due to the upsurge in Coking Coal prices. Buyers in India have already started to procure actively in view of the rising international prices.

The major importers during the month were: JSW Steel, Essar Steel, Atibir Industries and Tata Steel.
