According to latest customs data, USA flat steel exports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets remain unchanged in Apr’18 against previous month.
Nation flat steel exports stood at 0.42 MnT and remain stable since past few months.
However on yearly premise,flat steel export decline by 11% in Apr’18 against 0.47 MnT in Apr’17.
During first four months (Jan- Apr) of CY18 nation’s flat steel exports stood at 1.65 MnT,lower by 8% against 1.79 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
An AIIS said in a statement, citing President Donald Trump’s efforts to renegotiate the 24-year-old trilateral trade deal mentioned “Steel exports will likely be one of the first areas where the harsh consequences of the increased trade related conflict with our NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) partners will be seen”
Recently the Trump government has announced to levy hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from EU (European Union), Mexico, and Canada that w.e.f from 7th June’18. Steel imports from these countries will be taxed at 25% and aluminum imports at 10%.
These moves will likely to affect trade relations even more and result in retaliation by the two biggest purchasers (Canada & Mexico ) of American steel, driving down exports from the United States.

Country-Wise USA flat steel exports in Apr’18- Canada was the major flat steel importer from USA and has procured 0.21 MnT in Apr’18 higher by 5% against 0.20 MnT in Mar’18.
Second largest importer of flat steel from USA was Mexico with 0.19 MnT which remain unchanged since last two months.
