USA: Coal production rises 8% on year in CY’21, exports up 5%

In 2021, US coal production increased by 8% y-o-y to 536 mn t while the country exported 104 mn t of coal, an increase of 5% y-o-y. Amid China’s informal ban on Australian coal, the USA increased shipments to China. The USA’s coal production increased amid improved domestic demand on pick up in industrial activity with the easing of Covid-related restrictions.
