US sets preliminary dumping margins on Indian stainless steel bar imports

  • Commerce releases preliminary AD review results
  • Dumping margins range from 0% to 30.92%

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has issued the preliminary results of its anti-dumping (AD) duty review on stainless steel bars imported from India for the period spanning 1 February 2023 to 31 January 2024. The review aims to assess whether Indian exporters sold stainless steel bars in the US at prices below the normal market value, impacting domestic industry competitiveness.

According to sources, Indian stainless steel bar exports were sold below normal values during the review period. Consequently, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) assigned weighted average dumping margins of 30.92% to companies including Atlas Stainless Corporation, Astrabright LLP, Bahubali Steel Industries, and others.

Another group, including Ambica Steels Limited and Laxcon Steels Limited, received margins of 15.46%. Aamor Inox Limited was found to have a zero dumping margin. The DOC plans to rescind the review for companies with no import activity during the period.

The DOC also announced the termination of the review for certain companies that had no record of shipments during the period under review. The final results of this investigation are expected to be issued within 120 days of the preliminary release.

The outcome of the final ruling will shape the duty structure on Indian stainless steel bars in the US and could influence future trade flows and pricing strategies between the two countries.
