US coal production rose by 1.2% in 2014 but it’s projected to fall in coming two years as weak demand and high production cost have been faced by US coal miners. Domestic coal consumption could increase slightly in 2015 despite of global natural gas price decline and government’s environment protection rules for coal based power plants in 2015.
