United States, recorded iron ore imports at 0.58 MnT in July’18, up significantly by 81% as against 0.32 MnT in June’18. However, on yearly basis, imports recorded decline of 13% as against July’17 imports at 0.67 MnT.
For CY’18 (Jan-July’17), iron ore imports witnessed at 2.82 MnT, down 28% on yearly basis as against 3.92 MnT same duration last year (Jan-July’17).
US increasing crude steel production
In July’18, United States crude steel output increased to 7.28 MnT against 7.06 MnT in June’18.On yearly basis, the output recorded 5% increase as against July’17 production at 6.96 MnT.
Brazil marked the largest iron ore exporter to United States
Brazil stood the largest iron ore exporter to United States in the month of July’18 with total quantity of 0.45 MnT, (up more than two folds on monthly basis) contributing 78% share of total US import for the month, followed by Russia at 0.07 MnT. Canada and Peru recorded imports at 0.03 MnT each.

United States Iron Ore Exports Up 63% Y-o-Y in July’18
United States iron ore exports for the month of July’18 witnessed at 1.53 MnT, up 63% on yearly basis as against 0.94 MnT in July’17. However, on monthly basis exports witnessed a slight increase as against 1.49 MnT a month ago.
For the duration Jan-July’18, the total iron ore exports by the country marked at 7.09 MnT, up 37% as against 5.19 MnT in last year same duration (Jan-July’17).
United States exports to Canada increased 10% M-o-M
Canada stood the largest importer of iron ore from US in July’18 at 1.21 MnT, contributing 80% of total exports share, up by 10% on monthly basis. Japan stood the second largest importer at 0.3 MnT (down 19% M-o-M), followed by Mexico at 0.02 MnT.
