Indian metallurgical coal imports rose by 0.91% to 4.90 million tonnes (MnT) in Aug’18, compared with 4.85 MnT in Aug’18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.
On a year-on-year basis, the Aug’18 imports have increased 8.4% from 4.52 MnT in Aug’17.

Major Coal Exporters to India:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that Indian coking coal imports from Australia constituted the highest share, at around 75%.
However, Indian met coal imports from Australia fell by 3.44% in Aug’18.
Following Australia, the imports from USA accounted for around 11% share.
Also, Indian coking coal imports from USA rose by 48.52% in Aug’18.
Imports from Canada increased by 16.79% to 0.22 MnT in Aug’18, compared with 0.19 MnT in Jul’18.

Among the various ports in India, the Paradip port continued to handle the highest volume of import traffic during the month of Aug’[18; followed by the Haldia and Mormugao ports.
