Ukraine Billet Exports Analysis, May 2017

Ukraine, one of the largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 0.61 MnT billet in May 2017, according to trade statistics released by department state statistics service of Ukraine.

The exports registered a growth of 90% M-o-M in May’17 against 0.32 MnT in Apr’17. On yearly calculation, the country exported around 7.74 MnT in CY 2016 & at 7.84 MnT in CY 2015.

Further, in the first 5 months of 2017, the country’s total export for billet was at 2.6 MnT.

With rising country’s steel demand in globe, the crude steel production also marked a hike by 5.48% to 24.23 MnT in 2016 against 22.97 MnT in 2015. Meanwhile, in 2017 (Jan’17-May’17) the figure of crude steel production stood at 9.37 MnT.

Country wise:

During May 2017, the largest importer of Ukrainian originated billet was Italy & Turkey which imports about 0.21 MnT & 0.15 MnT, respectively.

Similarly, in the total billet exports during 2017 (Jan-May), the major buyers of Ukrainian billet was – Italy (27.96%), Turkey (19.95%) & Egypt (14.09%).

Updates

1.  In 2017 (Jan-June), Ukraine produced approximately 8.70 MnT of rolled steel products, which was down by 20% on yearly basis.

2.  As per the sources, recently few deals are concluded to North Africa (Egypt) by Ukrainian exporter at USD 440-445/MT CFR.
