In January 2013, imports of Pig iron into Turkey dropped even below the total quantity of material imported in the year 2012.
Low output from Ukrainian Pig iron makers looking at expensive iron ore and limited rise in scrap prices as compared to iron ore resulted in weak buying activities in Pig iron by electric arc furnaces in Turkey.
Turkey imported a total of 59,919 MT of Pig iron in January, from countries, as mentioned below:
Ukraine 26,899.5 MT (33% less in comparison to Turkish export figures in 2012, 116,349.3 MT was sold to Turkey in December 2012)
Russia 26,151 MT (slightly below what was exported in 2012, similar quantity was exported to Turkey in December 2012)
And, from South Africa 5,900 MT
