Turkey: Imported scrap prices inch down in latest deal

Imported scrap prices to Turkey moved down slightly in a recent deal. In the deal concluded, a major USA based scrap recycler sold a 32,000 t bulk cargo, comprising of 17,000 t of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $ 267/t and 15,000 t of shredded at $ 277/t to a Mediterranean based steel mill.

Earlier in the week, an Aegean region based steelmaker booked a bulk vessel from a same USA based scrap supplier. The cargo comprised of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $265/t CFR Turkey.

SteelMint’s assessment of USA origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) is at $267/t CFR Turkey, down by $3/t against the last report.

Many steelmakers anticipate that there may be a silence in the market for a short period in the near term as holiday season started in many areas, however, Turkish steelmakers have booked enough cargoes for July shipments as well and may not need to go for aggressive procurement very soon.
