Turkey-world’s largest importer of ferrous scrap has registered drop in its ferrous scrap imports by 39 % M-o-M in Jun’17.Turkey Imported 1.29 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17 while, the country had imported 2.1 MnT ferrous scrap in May’17. Reduced scrap imports could be attributed to Ramadan festival in Jun’17 which slows down trade activities in Turkey.
On yearly premises, Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports fell further by 33 % Y-o-Y against 1.95 MnT in Jun’16.
During period of H1 (Jan-Jun’17) of CY17 turkey has imported 9.3 MnT of ferrous scrap, up 1.42 % Y-o-Y against 9.17 MnT of imports during the same period in CY16.
Belgium remained preferred source for ferrous scrap to Turkey in Jun’17:
Unlike previous months, the leading scrap exporter to Turkey – United States, Netherland and United Kingdom have registered lesser exports to Turkey in Jun’17. In the considered month Belgium and Russia raised ferrous scrap exports to Turkey in Jun’17.
Belgium exported highest 0.23 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17 up 9.5 % M-o-M, followed by Russia which has exported 0.18 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17.
United Kingdom and Netherland contributed equal share of 0.14 MnT in Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports. While, US slipped to lower position registering 0.13 MnT exports in Jun’17.
During first half of CY17, United States exported highest 1.52 MnT comprising 16.34 % of total ferrous scrap exports to Turkey. While, other major exporters were Netherland and United Kingdom each with 1.28 MnT (13.73 %) and 1.26 MnT(13.56 %) besides Belgium 1.21 MnT (12.96 %) and Russia 0.83 MnT (8.96 %)respectively.
