Scrap exports by United Kingdom to Turkey doubled Y-o-Y to 0.32 MnT in Aug’17.
Turkey-world’s largest importer of ferrous scrap has witnessed fall in its ferrous scrap imports by 23% M-o-M in Aug’17. As per recent customs data, Turkey imported 1.56 MnT ferrous scrap in Aug’17 while the country imported 2.02 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17.
Fall in scrap imports could be attributed to hike in scrap imports prices consecutively in July and Aug’17. Monthly average import prices of US origin HMS was assessed at USD 278/MT, CFR in Jun’17, USD 303/MT, CFR in Jul’17 and USD 352/MT in Aug’17.
On yearly premises, Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports increased further by 21% Y-o-Y against 1.29 MnT in Aug’16.
Turkey scrap imports during Jan-Aug’17 up 12% amid rising EAF steel output –
During first eight months period of CY17, Turkey has imported 12.89 MnT of ferrous scrap, up 12% Y-o-Y against 11.52 MnT ferrous scrap imports during the same period of CY16 (Jan-Aug’16).
Rise in scrap imports of Turkey is in line with an increase in crude steel output by electric arc furnace (EAF) based steel mills. As per reports, Turkey’s crude steel production from EAF totalled 17.04 MnT during Jan-Aug’17, up by 19% Y-o-Y.
Top ports for scrap imports in Turkey were Iskenderun, Ambarli, Izmir, Mersin and Yilport.
United Kingdom remained preferred source for ferrous scrap to Turkey –
United Kingdom supplied highest 0.32 MnT ferrous scrap in Aug’17 followed by other prominent exporters like Russia (0.28 MnT), Netherlands (0.19MnT) and Belgium (0.13 MnT) in Aug’17.
However, United States scrap export volumes to Turkey decreased in Aug’17 and it exported 0.11 MnT in Aug’17 against 0.40 MnT in Jul’17.
During first eight months of CY17 (Jan-Aug’17), United States exported highest 2.03 MnT occupying 16% share in total ferrous scrap exports to Turkey.
United Kingdom arose as second highest exporter with 1.93 MnT ferrous scrap exports during Jan-Aug’17, Following which other major exporters were Netherland (1.62 MnT), Belgium (1.47 MnT) and Russia (1.38 MnT) during Jan-Aug’17 to Turkey.
