Billet Imports in Turkey moved up by 54% M-o-M in Sep’17 & 20% Q-o-Q in Q2 FY18, the recent released data by Turkey’s custom showed.
As per the customs, the nation has imported about 370,000 MT Billet in September 2017 against 240,000 MT in August 2017, surge by 54.16 % on monthly premises. On the contrary Y-o-Y, imports were down by 17.77% against 450,000 MT in Sep’16.
Further, on yearly basis, in first 9 months of CY 2017 (Jan-Sep), the imports is down by 36.23% to 3.22 MnT against same preceding last year at 5.05 MnT.
As per the SteelMint’s assessment in September 2017, the crude steel production of the Turkey was around 3.0 MnT and in CY17(Jan-Sep) it was approximately 27.64 MnT. Prior to this it was at 33.16 MnT in CY16 & 31.52 MnT in CY15.
Country wise:
During September 2017, the largest exporter of Billet to Turkey was Russia – 180,000 MT, Brazil – 60,000 MT & Ukraine at 50,000 MT.
Similarly, in the total billet imports during 2017 (Jan-Sep’17), the major sellers of billet to Turkey was – Russia 1.24 MnT (38.54%), Ukraine 0.86 MnT (26.57%), Brazil 0.41 MnT (12.78%), Iran 0.12 MnT (3.64%) & Netherlands 0.11 MnT (3.39%).
Quaterly Analysis
The recent SteelMint’s Statistics report showed imports of Billet in Turkey during Q2 FY18 (Jul-Sept’17) at 1.08 MnT, surge by 20% Q-o-Q when it compared with Q1 FY18 (Apr-Jun’17) at 0.90 MnT. While, on yearly premises the exports decline by 25% in Q2 FY18 against Q2 FY17 at 1.44 MnT.
Further it was also noticed on half yearly calculations of Turkish billet imports fell by 36.13% to 1.98 MnT in H1 FY18 compared with 3.10 MnT in H1 FY17.

4. On weekly basis, Turkish Rebar export offers slips by USD 5/MT owing to weak demand, price assessment at USD 505-520/MT FoB.
