Thailand Billet Imports Rise 44% in Feb on Increased Supplies from Middle East

Thailand billet imports were recorded at 405,497 MT during Feb’20, to book an M-o-M growth of 44%. The same were recorded at 280,689 MT during Jan’20. Oman, Japan, Iran, India, and Russia were the major exporting nations to the country, with 187,988 MT, 84,593 MT, 50,743 MT, 36,596 MT, 32,825 MT of billet exports during the month.

On the other hand, Thailand’s ferrous scrap imports have come down by 55% M-o-M to 63,473 MT in Feb’20.

Thailand imported 4 MnT billets in CY19. Major sources were Russia, Oman, Japan, and Iran.

Outlook-Currently, like the rest of the world, the country is also battling with the epidemic and is witnessing the slowness in the trades. Imported billets have turned costly due to currency depreciation. Also, with the decline in local scrap prices, scrap import bookings have remained slow.
