Thailand Billet Imports Decline in Oct’18

Billet imports to Thailand reported a decline of 50.65% in the month of October 2018, the trade statistics released by the Thailand custom reported.

In the month of Oct’18, the nation has imported around 133,073 MT billet against 269,668 MT in Sep’18. Prior to this, on M-o-M in Sep’18 it remains downside against 301,322 MT in Aug’18.

However, on Y-o-Y in Oct 2018 imports registered a gain of 48.8% against 89,384 MT in Oct 2017.

Iran remains the major billet exporter to Thailand, however in Oct’18 billet export has recorded nil against the last month. And in Oct’18, Russia was the major billet exporter to Thailand which exported around 40,654 MT (30.55%), followed by Vietnam, Japan & South Korea whose exports stood at 39,913 MT, 39,447 MT & 12,061 MT , respectively.

While the nation has imported about 1,957,463 MT Billet in Jan-Oct’18 against 1,590,667 MT in Jan-Oct’17, incline by 23.06% on yearly premises.

During this period (Jan-Oct’18), Iran has exported approximately 46.63% billet (912,790 MT) to the nation, followed by Japan (484,956 MT) & India (101,626 MT). Prior to this in the same preceding last year, Iran’s billet export to the nation was around 630,606 MT, surge almost 45% on yearly basis.

— Thailand ferrous scrap imports decline by 9.44% M-o-M in Oct’18 & stood at 148,960 MT as against 164,488 MT in Sep’18.

 In the month of October 2018, the crude steel production of Thailand was around 400,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Oct’18) it was approximately 3,469,320 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 4,225,000 MT, & 3,879,246 MT in CY16.

Pig iron imports from Russia increased

Russia continues to remain the largest Pig iron supplier to Thailand, in Oct’18 the Pig iron export to the nation stood at 47,512 MT, Inline India second topped the list with 32,221 MT of exports to Thailand.

In Oct’18, Thailand has imported around 80,562 MT Pig iron, which records the second highest volume in Jan-Oct’18. Russia & India was the major pig iron exporter to Thailand which exported about 210,438 MT (56.83%) & 120,466 MT (32.53%), respectively.

In context to export prices, global offers for steel grade pig Iron is assessed at USD 365-370/MT FoB India & USD 345-355/MT FOB Brazil.
