Tata Steel’s Iron Ore & Pellet Sourcing from Merchant Market Fall in Oct’15

Tata Steel procured 28 rakes of iron ore and 39 rakes of pellets in Oct’15.

Jharkhand HC allowed resumption of operations at Tata Steel Noamundi Mines by an order dated 28 Sept’15 and asked the steel maker to make a payment of INR 3.72 bn in 3 equal installments. Following this, the company’s iron ore and pellet sourcing from merchant market noticed a fall in Oct’15.

Tata Steel’s iron ore procurement through railways dropped by 43% M-o-M and pellet rake movement fell by 20% M-o-M.

The steel giant procured 21 rakes of iron ore from its mines in Odisha, 4 rakes from Odisha based Rungta Mines, 2 rakes from NMDC (C.G.) mines and 1 rake from Gangavaram Port Ltd.

Pellet procurement fell by 20% M-o-M in Oct’15. Major source was Jindal Steel & Power (30 rakes). Other sources were Odisha Minerals-Adhunik (5 rakes) and Brahmani River Pellets (4 rakes).
