Taiwan’s monthly coal imports decreased by 25% in Nov’16. While yearly imports recorded a growth of 4% as compared to Nov’15.
Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest coal importer, has imported 5.31 MnT coal in Nov’16. The country’s imports decline by 25% on monthly basis. However Yearly imports rose by 4% which was at 5.13 MnT in Nov’15. As per Taiwan customs data.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 95% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Nov’16, out of the total imports, the country has received 5.17 MnT Bituminous coal, 0.03 MnT Anthracite and about 0.11 MnT coal from other grades.

Quantity in MnT
Coal Imports in2016:
During the period Jan’16-Nov’16, the coal import is down by 2% to 60.81 MnT, compared with 61.88 MnT during the same period in 2015.
Major Exporting Countries in Nov’16:
Australia, the largest coal supplier to Taiwan, shipped about 3.29 MnT coal in Nov’16 with a decrease of 16% compared with Oct’16. While coal exports noted a significant growth by 61% Y-o-Y, compared to Nov’15.
Moreover, Australia caters more than 45% share of the total yearly coal imports of Taiwan. Again recorded as the top supplier and shipped about 31.49 MnT coal during Jan’16-Nov’16.
Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Taiwan, exported 1.30 MnT coal in Nov’16 with a fall of 36% M-o-M. Besides, yearly exports also decline by 30% which was 1.87 MnT in Nov’15.
Russia, the third- largest coal exporter to Taiwan, shipped around 0.25 MnT coal during the month, down significantly by 59% M-o-M. Moreover, Yearly coal exports to Taiwan follows the similar trend with exports recording a drop of 62% Y-o-Y.
