SteelMint, from now onwards will use the terminology large and medium & small scale producers in place of primary and secondary steel producers for all assessment of prices and news.
Earlier on 12 May’16, Ministry of Steel had issued a notification that no Steel producers will be classified/ certified as ‘Integrated Steel Producers’ Primary Steel Producers, ‘Secondary Steel Producers’, Main Producers, or Main Producers or Others by Ministry of Steel or Joint Plant Committee (JPC).
SteelMint will classify all steel producers as per there capacity as Large or Medium & Small scale producer. Large scale steel producers will be called to plants more than 4 million ton crude steel capacity like JSW Steel, Steel Authority of India Limited, Tata Steel, Essar and Rastriya Ispat Nigam Limited, Jindal Steel & Power Limited. Besides these six steel producers, all others steel producers should be considered under Medium & Small scale producers.
India presently produce 92 million tone crude steel through BoF and Electric Furnace route. BoF has 52% and EF (including EAF & IF) has 48% share in total production. There are 6 units that produce 45 million tons crude steel whereas more than 1,000 units that produce 47 million tons.
