The new steel minister, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, recently assured the Metal Container Manufacturer Association (MCMA) that the ministry will extend the best possible support to the metal packaging industry.
The MCMA, on 15 Jul’21, highlighted to the minister that the three months extension of the quality control order is not helping the industry and that, keeping in mind current Covid conditions in India and overseas, it should be extended till March 2022. The minister was also informed that the industry is facing acute shortage of key inputs tinplate/tin free steel. Tinplate demand is expected to grow at 4-6% to 770-800 KT by 2024.
