In Mar’19, the crude steel production of Spain was around 1,371,000 MT and Q1 CY19 (Jan-Mar) it was approximately 3,686,000 MT. Meanwhile, in Q4 CY18 (Oct-Dec) the figure of crude steel production stood at 3,677,000 MT, according to the World Steel Association.
In Q1 CY19, the total finished steel exports reported at around 1,869,124 MT, decline marginally by 3.8% on yearly basis as against 1,800,365 MT in Q1 CY18.
Spain majorly exported finished flat steel to France (27.39%), Portugal (9.56%) & Italy (9.47%). Inline finished long steel it largely exported to France (21.85%), United Kingdom (10.61%) & Portugal (9.86%) in Q1 CY19.
Spain Finished Flat Steel exports surge by 3.64% in Q1 CY19 to 643,896 MT in comparison with 621,248 MT in Q1 CY18.
Whereas on monthly premises the exports registered an increase of 36% at 2,42,964 MT in Mar’19 against 1,78,688 MT in Feb’19.
Major flat steel importing nations in Q1 CY19 included France at 176,383 MT and Portugal 61,556 MT. Other major importing nations include Italy and Morocco at 60,999 MT & 54,484 MT of flat steel imports from Spain.
France majorly procured flat steel from Spain in Q1 CY19. Meanwhile as per market reports French Government’s decision to increase investments towards commercial area development and infrastructure expansion under ‘Grand Paris Project’ has resulted to growth of French steel industry which in turn resulted to surge in export volumes of Spain to France in current quarter.
Further, French automobile industry being aided with stable incentives has resulted in swift movement from traditional fuel driven vehicles to Electrical Vehicles which has prompted the demand of steel imports to France from Spain.
Thus above factors have collectively led to increase in exports of flat steel from Spain.
Spain Finished Long Steel exports inched up 3.9% in Q1 CY19, & stood at 1,225,228 MT as against 1,179,117 MT in Q1 CY18. While in Q4 CY18 the finished long exports was at 1,242,959 MT.
Country’s long steel exports in Mar’19 stood at 4,16,823 MT, decreased by 5% as compared to 4,38,568 MT in Feb’19.
On yearly premises exports inch up by 1.3% in Mar’19 as compared to 4,11,557 MT in Mar’18.
Major finished long steel buyers of Spain were France at 87,808 MT, Algeria 53,318 MT, United Kingdom 43,666 MT and Portugal 38,840 MT in Mar’19.
