South Korea to close down 16 coal-fired power plants during winter

South Korea is set to close down 16 coal-fired power plants during 1 Dec’21-28 Feb’22, out of the total 53 plants, the energy ministry said. The move is aimed at reducing air pollution and boosting LNG demand. Rest coal-fired power plants would operate at 80% capacity. The scope of resuming closed down units will be based on power demand, and LNG price, supply, as per the reports.
