According to the latest customs data, South Korea flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) have witnessed a decline of 4.4%, M-o-M basis in Jan’17 and stood at 0.85 MnT as compared to 0.89 MnT in Dec’16.
On yearly basis, South Korean flat steel imports, slumped by 10% in Jan’17 against Jan’16. In Jan’16 the same stood at 0.94 MnT.
In CY 16 from Jan-Dec country’s flat steel imports rose by 2.2% to 11.44 MnT against 11.19 MnT in 2015.
Grade-wise South Korea Flat Steel Imports-
If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7208 imports down by 9%,M-o-M in Jan’17 against Dec’16 whereas 7210,7225 and 7212 have shown the growth in Jan’17 against previous month. Although, grade 7209 declined significantly by 31.8% in Jan’17 against Dec’16.

Country-wise South Korea flat steel imports in Jan’17-
China remained the major flat steel exporter to South Korea and exported 5,60,682 MT in Jan’17 against 5,78,418 MT of flat steel in Dec’16.Other major countries include Japan and Taiwan.
