South Africa, the world’s biggest Manganese Ore exporter, has exported 1.16 MnT (million tonnes) Manganese Ore in Sep’16 according to trade statistics released by South African customs.
South African Manganese Ore exports have registered a growth of over 33% M-o-M in Sep’16 against 0.87 MnT in Aug’16. On similar lines, exports moved up only marginally by 2% Y-o-Y against 1.13 MnT in Sep’15.
In the first nine months of 2016, the country exported 8.81 MnT, at almost the same level as compared to 8.85 MT in the same time period previous year.
Manganese Ore export quantity from South Africa is expected to be moderate in October-November, on account of supply disruptions in South Africa. This factor along with robust demand from China has lent support to Manganese Ore prices shooting up.

China, the largest importer of South African Manganese ore, imported 0.72 MnT in Sep’16, followed by India, Japan and Russian Federation with total import of 0.10 MnT, 0.04 MnT and 0.04 MnT respectively.

India imported 0.74 MnT of Manganese ore during the period of Jan-Sep’16, which is 15% less than the quantity imported in the same period last year.
Whereas, China imported 5.48 MnT of Manganese ore during the period of Jan-May’16, which is 9% more than the quantity imported in the same period last year.
