South African coal mine halts production as supply agreement to expire soon

South African mining firm, Wescoal has placed the Vanggatfontein colliery on maintenance amid uncertainty surrounding Eskom’s renewal of its coal supply agreement. The 10-year supply agreement is set to expire on 30 Apr’22 with 0.3 mnt of stockpile at the mine. It has a production capacity of 3.6 mnt/annum.
