South African coal exports to The Netherlands surge in Mar’22

South Africa’s thermal coal export shipments to The Netherlands rose to 0.8 mnt in Mar’22 from 70,000 t in Feb, CoalMint data shows. The rise in exports came in the wake of the EU imposing sanctions on Russia following the invasion of Ukraine. The EU has been facing a gas crunch, as a majority of its requirements come from Russia, although a big chunk of its gas usage has been replaced with coal.
