South Africa: Transnet’s coal transportation to RBCT drops 17% in CY’21

Amid a series of disruptions hindering South Africa’s largest rail operator Transnet’s operations in 2021, the total coal tonnage transported to RBCT fell by 17% y-o-y to 58.1 mnt. Thermal coal export shipments from the country registered a sharp decline of 13% y-o-y in CY’21 to 64 mnt, CoalMint data reveals.
