South Africa: Merafe’s ferro chrome production drops over 50% y-o-y in 9MCY’25

Merafe, South Africa’s leading ferro chrome producer, reported Jan-Sep’25 (9MCY’25) output at 112,000 t from its joint venture with Glencore, down by 51% y-o-y from 230,000 t in H1CY’24.The sharp reduction in output is mainly attributed to the suspension of operations at several smelters, prompted by unfavourable market conditions.
