According to preliminary custom data, South Africa Manganese Ore export witnessed a marginal increase of 8% to 1.3 MnT in Mar’17 as compared to the previous month. In Feb’17 the South African Manganese Ore stood at 1.2 MnT.
Moreover, there has also been an increase in South African Manganese Ore exports by 29% Y-o-Y in FY17 against FY16. However, on quarterly basis, the exports have witnessed a marginal fall of 3% in Q4FY17 against Q3FY17.
It has also been seen that Port Elizabeth is the primary port for exporting Manganese Ore followed by Saldanha Bay and Durban.
China’s Manganese Ore Imports
China stands out to be the largest importer of South African manganese ore which imported 0.58 MnT in Mar’17 is followed by India, Russia and South Korea among others.
Top 5 countries that import the South African Manganese Ore are headed by China which almost imported 56% of the total South African exports in Q4FY17. China and India witnessed drop in their imports in Q4FY17 by 24% and 6% Q-o-Q. On similar lines, Japan, Norway and South Korea registered an increase of 64%, 13% and 65% Q-o-Q respectively.
