South Africa – World’s 3rd largest iron ore exporter after Australia and Brazil recorded exports at 5.72 MnT in Nov’18, according to the trade data released by South African Customs. The exports witnessed rise of 7% on monthly basis as against 5.37 MnT in Oct’18.
However, the Nov’18 exports on yearly basis, stood down slightly compared to Nov’17 exports at 5.83 MnT.
South African exports for the duration Jan-Nov’18 witnessed at 58.01 MnT, down 4% against same duration last year (Jan-Nov’17) at 60.56 MnT.
An agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) iron ore exports on monthly basis, recorded increase in Nov’18 by 28% to 3.61 MnT as against 2.83 MnT in Oct’18. On yearly basis, exports increased 4% Y-o-Y as against 3.48 MnT in Nov’17.
The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore monthly exports were down by 17% in Nov’18 to 2.11 MnT as against Oct’18 exports at 2.54 MnT. On yearly basis, exports witnessed 11% decline as compared to Nov’17 exports at 2.36 MnT.
Indian imports from South Africa increased 22% M-o-M
Indian imports of South African lumps increased 22% to 0.28 MnT in Nov’18 as against 0.23 MnT a month ago. Demand for imported lump increased in India.
China continues to be the largest iron ore importer from South Africa for the month of Nov’18, at 3.24 MnT, contributing 57% of South African Nov’18 export. The exports increased by 6% on monthly basis as against 3.05 MnT in Oct’18 followed by Japan at 0.5 MnT (up two folds M-o-M).
South Korea and Germany iron ore imports from South Africa recorded rise for the month of Nov’18 at 0.39 MnT and 0.26 MnT respectively.
