South Africa: Iron Ore Export Up 16% in May’17

South Africa, world’s 3rd largest iron ore exporter after Australia and Brazil have exported 5.95 MnT iron ore in May’17, according to the trade data released by South African Customs. Iron ore exports have increased by 16% M-o-M as it was 5.15 MnT in Apr’17.

South African iron ore exports have increased by 15% for the month May Y-o-Y compared with May’16. In May’16 iron ore exports from South Africa was recorded at 5.17 MnT.

For the first five months in 2017 the country exported 26.9 MnT iron ore against the quantity of 25.66 MnT for the same period in 2016 which was up 5% Y-o-Y.

In May’17, the agglomerated iron ore exports were at 3.71 MnT, up 17% as it were 3.16 MnT in Apr’17. Similarly the non-agglomerated iron ore exports were also up 13% at 2.24 MnT in May’17 against 1.19 MnT in Apr’17.South Africa, Iron Ore, Export, Iron Ore ExportSouth Africa iron ore export to China up 13% in May’17
The largest importer of South African iron ore China retains the first position for the month of May’17 as well. For the month China imported 3.37 MnT iron ore from South Africa compared to the quantity of 2.97 MnT in Apr’17

South Korea Imports 131% higher material M-o-M
South Korea imported 0.90 MnT South African iron ore which was up 131% M-o-M with 15% share of total South African iron ore exports in May’17. South Korea did not import iron ore from South Africa in May last year.
