South Africa: Ferro Alloy Exports Up by 20% in CY17

According to the South African customs, the country has witnessed an increase of 20% Y-o-Y in its Ferro Alloy exports.

In CY17, South Africa exported 31.09 MnT ferro alloys and ores against 25.83 MnT in CY16. However, on monthly basis, it witnessed a decrease of 13% M-o-M. In Dec’17, South Africa exported 2.56 MnT of ferro alloys and ores against 2.95 MnT in Nov’17.

On yearly basis, South Africa witnessed an increase in its Manganese and Chrome Ore exports by 25% Y-o-Y each, while registered a decrease of 6% and 13% in its Ferro Chrome and Silico Manganese exports respectively.

On monthly basis, the country recorded a marginal increase of 5% in Manganese Ore exports while registered a decrease in Chrome Ore and Ferro Chrome by 28% and 22% respectively.

China remains the largest importer of South African Ferro Alloys and Ores, registering an increase of 7% at 16.26 MnT in CY17 against 15.20 MnT in CY16. However, it witnessed a decrease of 19% on monthly basis at 1.38 MnT in Dec’17 against 1.7 MnT in Nov’17. Mozambique and India remain the second and third largest importer of South African ferro alloys.
